Our Weekly Newsletter 4/15

Hello
I can't believe we're here and that this is my last week with the kids.  It has truly been an honor to work with each and every student in this class.  They are a uniquely special little group.  I will miss them all terribly but very much look forward to bringing my little girl back for special events and seeing the kids.  Thank you to each and every one of you for your support this year.  I have loved getting to know you, work with you and share cute stories about your kids with you!  This has been a wonderful school year and I know it will continue to be amazing with Hillary as teacher.  Thank you again to all of you for raising such great kids and for your continual support of our classroom!

The students did an incredible job at the speech meet!!!  I was so impressed with how they rose to the challenge of public speaking, got on a big stage and articulately recited their selection.  It was one of the cutest things I have ever seen!  Thank you for all the hard work I know you put in at home to help make your child successful in this endeavor.

This week we are focusing on the letter 'Z'. Please reinforce the sound the letter 'Z' makes and point it out everywhere you can. This really helps solidify the information being taught at school.

Homework
Here is the list of tasks to be completed this week. Please space out the activities throughout the week. The homework is meant to be done in small chunks throughout the week. Remember to return the homework folder on Friday.

1. Choose 3-4 activities from the April calendar
2. Make a collage/draw pictures of things that begin with 'Z' in the yellow book
3. Complete the 'Z' page in the handwriting book
4. Read 10 minutes a night and fill out the reading log

A Special Request
Miss Welkley, our music teacher, has asked if it would be possible for some parents from our class to make headbands with felt animal ears on them for each member of our class for the Spring Concert in May. The goal is to have 3 different types of animal ears represented. Please contact Hillary if you are willing and able to help complete this task.

Field Trips
We have a couple field trips coming up at the end of April. Thank you to everyone for signing up to drive and making it possible to go on these trips! On Wednesday, April 24th, we will be going to the UCSC Life Lab. This is a fabulous, hands-on field trip where the students get to explore in the gorgeous life lab up at UCSC. The cost of the trip to UCSC is $4. The following week, on Tuesday, April 30th, we will be heading to the Seymour Center. This is another great field trip where the students will get to learn about ocean animals and even touch some of them! The cost of the trip to the Seymour Center is $5. Please return the permission slips and money by the dates stated on the forms.
