Our Weekly Newsletter 12/17

Hello
Thank you for the big birthday surprise!  It was so much fun to celebrate my birthday with this wonderful group of kids.  Thank you for helping them make the beautiful sign.  I still have it up!  It's too cute to take down!

The jog-a-thon was a big success!  It was absolutely precious to see all the kids running with such focus and determination.  I was so proud of how well they did!  Thank you to everyone who came to cheer us on and to all of you for bringing your kids to school on time with jog-a-thon appropriate clothing!

This week we are focusing on the letter 'D'.  Please reinforce the sound the letter 'D' makes and point it out everywhere you can.  This really helps solidify the information being taught at school.

Also, make sure to send your child's sight words back to school when they have memorized them so they can read them to me and get a prize!

Homework
Here is the list of tasks to be completed this week.  Please space out the activities throughout the week.  The homework is meant to be done in small chunks throughout the week.  Remember to return the homework folder on Friday.

1. Choose 3-4 activities from the December calendar
2. Make a collage/draw pictures of things that begin with 'D' in the yellow book
3. Complete the 'D' page in the handwriting book
4. Read 10 minutes a night and fill out the reading log
5. Practice your child's play lines and songs!!!
6. Complete the December calendar response journal

Christmas Play
Our Christmas production is this Friday, December 21st from 1:30-2.  We will then be coming back to class to ring in the Christmas holiday with a gingerbread house making celebration.  All parents are invited to stay and participate in the festivities!  I am sure the students would welcome the help with their gingerbread houses!  I have posted a sign-up sheet on Shutterfly for the items needed.  We still need a few items including Royal icing.  Royal icing is a certain type icing used for gingerbread houses.  It acts like the glue.  You can find a recipe online. Also, to make your candy shopping easier, there is an aisle in Target dedicated to gingerbread houses!
*When praciticng your child's play lines, please make sure to practice the line that comes before theirs so they know when they are supposed to speak.

Stockings
Each student has made a stocking and has it hanging up in the classroom.  Some students have already begun to bring in stuffers to share with everyone! If you would like to participate, please bring 21 of the same small stocking stuffers (erasers, pencils, bookmarks, candy canes, Hershey Kisses, etc...) so your child can stuff his/her classmates stockings.  Please do not put names on each item, as it will make it harder for your child to find the correct stocking.  These should be brought in by next Thursday, so the students have time to pass out their treats.  The stockings will be going home with the children on Friday after the party.

Class Wish List
  • Black sharpies (a class set)
  • Color sharpies

Important Dates
  • Dec. 21st- Christmas play and party

A Need

Hi Families,
I am hoping to make butter with the students on Friday as part of their "marble jar" party (shhhh....don't tell). We are in need of 11 baby food/small jars.  If any of you have some hanging around the house, I would love to take them off your hands!  If you can bring them in by Friday morning that would be great!
Thank you!

It was so fun to have you in the classroom this week during centers! I am working with Hillary Dixon on getting a volunteer schedule posted so you can check to see when your time is.  I will let you know as soon as we have that information.

Johnson Family Farm
We will be heading to Johnson Family Farm on Thursday, October 25th.  We will be leaving school at 11am and returning by the end of the school day.  When we arrive at the farm we will eat lunch and then have our tour.  There is a sign-up sheet outside our classroom door for drivers.  We currently need a driver for 3 more students.  As a reminder, each child must be in a booster, so please keep that in mind when you sign up.

Drop-Off Reminder

I have been asked to send out a reminder that the circle is only used for quickly dropping students off.  If you would like to get out of your car and walk your child into line you must park in the parking lot and not in the circle, as it can cause traffic to back up.

Thank you!

Peanut Allergy Update

Important Update!!!
We have a student in our class with a severe peanut allergy.  In order to make our classroom as safe as possible, please:
1) Make sure your child’s hands, clothing and face are clean before you send them to school if they had peanuts for breakfast.
2) Educate your child about the content of their snacks and lunches so they can be aware.
Thank you for your consideration and cooperation in this matter!

Our Weekly Newsletter 9/17/12

Hello

Wow!  What an amazing back to school party!  A huge huge thank you to the Prentice family for hosting us all and putting together such a wonderful time of playing and getting to know each other more.  It was so fun to see so many of you!

Thank you all for coming to Back to School Night.  I really enjoyed getting to share a little about our school year and talking with many of you.  I think this is going to be a great year! I will be putting together the class contact list this week and sending it home in next week's homework folder.  If anyone was not able to give me your information at Back to School Night but would like to be on the contact list, please send your email and/or phone number my way sometime this week.

This week is 'M' week and the kick off to our "letter of the week" series.  We will be focusing on learning to write the letter and the sound the letter makes through different activities.  This week you can support your child's learning at home by pointing out printed 'm' words and things that begin with 'm'.

In math we are currently focusing on sorting and positional words.  It would be great if you could use words such as behind, in front of, after, etc...  at home to reinforce these concepts.  We will also be learning to sort items by size, color, shape, etc...  Any type of reinforcement in everyday life really helps cement their learning and understand the reasons for learning what we are learning.  Your support and help is greatly appreciated!

Homework

Homework begins this week!  Here is the list of tasks to be completed this week.  Please space out the activities throughout the week.  The homework is meant to be done in small chunks throughout the week.

1. Choose 3-4 activities from the September calendar
2. Make a collage/draw pictures of things that begin with M in the yellow book
3. Complete the 'M' page in the handwriting book
4. Read 10 minutes a night and fill out the reading log

Classroom Volunteering

Volunteering begins this Tuesday!  If you are volunteering for centers, please try to be to the classroom by 9:05-9:10.  Centers will begin at 9:15.  I will have instructions on the activity you will be leading for you on the table.  This week I hope to create a page on the blog with the volunteer schedule for September and October.  If you are unable to come to your scheduled volunteer time, please let me know as soon as possible so I can work to find someone to fill in.

Welcome to our class blog!

Hello Families!

Our class blog will be used for posting our weekly class newsletter in lieu of the paper version you have previously been receiving.  I will also be posting important information and reminders so please check the site frequently!

The blog will not have pictures of the students posted, as it is not a secured site.  I may occasionally post pictures of projects or our room but will be careful to not include the students or their names.

You may contact me on the blog by commenting on posts.  I will do my best to respond as quickly as possible!
